Out and About in First Days of Spring

This past couple weeks spring has properly begun. Yes their has been some rain showers, I got caught in a few and soggy was not the word to describe how soaked I was on Thursday night.

Any last weekend myself and my brother have been out riding the lanes of Warwickshire. Now I don't usually take pictures when I'm riding because I just sort of get into a head space, I look around and take in the views but I never seem to stop. Last Sunday my brother was struggling to get up some of the hills so like a good little brother I waited for him to catch up, which gave me the opportunity to take some pictures. This gave me an idea to try and take at least one photo a week. I'm quite a busy person I just rush around from place to place for no  reason really and I think I should stop sometimes a take a quick picture.  That idea led me onto something I'm always trying to do and that's challenge myself to try new things and accept change in my life.

This blog is about just looking around a bit more and just trying new things. I was talking to Katie last night and we were talking about how change is a good thing but a scary one. Katie will be going off to University in September and the realisation is setting in, and I won't lie it will be hard to get used to at first. But when you think about it, University is an amazing opportunity and I know Katie will love it! As a bonus I will have a place where I can escape to for the day or weekend to see her... and the Uni she is hoping to go to is very close to cycling heaven! but shhhhh don't tell her I said that.

So Katie going to Uni is a big change, what about the little ones? Well recently I haven't been feeling my best health wise, to help feel better I have cut caffeine out of my diet and reduced the amount of sugar I have, this has helped so much I can't even begin to tell you.

So change do you think its good or bad? I've had a really good positive week so I'm going to say its good... terrifying sometimes but good.
Why don't you try a little change this week? Instead of having that energy drink have a fruit juice instead (you'll start to feel the benefit really quickly).

Thanks for reading, have a really good week

A New Thing, on a Tuesday

So I've decided a few times a month I'll mid week blog just because hey I have the password to this account so I fancy blogging a couple of times a week why not.

Right so this week is just full of boring college work, which as you get to know me you'll realise I don't really do alot of,  ( yeah its not a great attitude but I just get distracted.. dam youtube). But I thought hey why not blog about the things that help me concentrate.

Yeah the first mid week blog is a bit confusing and rambling I'm sorry.

I'm just going to write a couple of top tips on how I focus when I do actually work.

My top tips are:
  • Keep your work area tidy, one thing I try and do is keep my desk tidy. I just have a tin with pens and sticky notes to remind myself of things. and then I have space for my textbooks and laptop.
  • I find having music on quite quietly to just relax me a little bit. Spend some time just making a really good playlist that will last a couple hours, because when I procrastinate I have to have an air drum solo to my favorite songs. I use a website called Grooveshark
  • As funny as it sounds don't over work, focus on one piece of work or subject if your revising and then just focus on that for a couple hours. I find its just so much more productive that way, because your not distracted by other things.
  • But my best advice get some snacks on the go, work and revision go so much easier if you've got some munch to help you through.
First midweek blog wasn't to bad was it?

Things that make me happy.

This time of year everyone seems stressed, a lot of my friends are all getting ready for a levels and then off to university. And everyone just seems stressed at the moment so I'm going to just write about a few things that make me happy and keep me sane in times of stressiness ( yeah its a word).

So the thing in my life that helps with that is Katie, she's my beautiful girlfriend. This month we had our 3 year anniversary, which is crazy!! Now its not always been easy, but hey nothing ever is. Katie is that person who is there for me whenever I need to let out my worries or stress of the day but on the other hand she is the first person to make me cry with laughter!

I read a lot as well, it can be anything from other blogs to a big book. When I was younger I was a real book worm, and then as I got busy with life and growing up you forget about books for a while and then I got a smart phone and started reading e books, which are a great invention! but now I have a bit more spare time I've started reading a proper books again, I'm currently reading a book called Blazing Saddles, which is about the history of the tour de france (yeah its cycling). But its really good and if you have time this week download an e book or start reading a book.

Lastly its my bike, you all know by know I'm a huge cycling fan. I ride every day of the week for commuting to college and work and then on the weekends I ride socially, and just for pure enjoyment. I find there is no greater way to relax than going 30mph down a hill, because you can't think of anything else otherwise you fall off and that hurts!!!! Cycling has pretty much taken over my life, I eat sleep ride my bike.. or spend hours on the internet. I just feel really chilled out after I ride my bike.

So why not just spend an hour doing something for yourself this week, go see your girlfriend/boyfriend. Or read a book, I dunno just spend some time not doing work or boring stuff!!!

Thanks for reading this weeks :)

Get to Know Me Tag

Last week my wonderful girlfriend tagged me to do the 'get to know me'. You can find Katie's blog here, she writes about lifestyle stuff. I'm biased but it is rather good.

So if you've got 10 minutes and you want to know more about me, here we go...

1) How tall are you?
5ft 7

2) How old are you?
I'm 18, however I don't tend to act like it i'm a child at heart

3) What are you studying?
I'm currently doing a level 3 BTEC in Health and Social care

4) Any tattoos or piercings?
No. But i'm sort of in two minds about getting a tattoo, but until I'm sure what I want I won't get one.

5) Turn on?
Nice eyes and a nice bottom!

6) Turn off?
Annoying laugh.. sounds really horrible but when someone is forcing a fake laugh its so annoying.

7) Qualities you look for in a partner?
Caring, funny, understanding and a secret cheeky side.

8) Favourite food?
Homemade Meatballs (I'll definitely have to blog that one day!!)

9) Fears?
I have such a fear of cows! I got chased across a field by a herd of them when I was younger

10) Greatest Physical achievement?
Hmmm getting out of bed this morning? Haha I'm taking part in two charity rides this year 1 being 100km and the other is 72km. So they will be a really big achievement.  I'll keep you all updated with that soon.

11) Last time you hung out with anyone?
I'm about to head up to the local pub to watch the rugby, with my brother and sister in law.

12) Favourite piece of jewellery?
I'm not really one for wearing jewellery but I have a watch that my grandparents brought me when I was 16.

13) If you could have one item of make up what would it be?
Now this sounds silly but I've only just been educated in man care as I call it. I can't live without moisturiser these days!

14) If you could have one item of clothing what would it be?
My comfy trousers and boxers.. I'm thinking practically here, and boxers are really comfy!!

If you have enjoyed this blog follow me on bloglovin!!

I tag you to do a get to know me.. its not easy to talk about yourself :P so let me know if you do!

Films to look forward to

I love film and tv, Its one way I relax, I especially like going to the cinema getting a large box of popcorn and watching a film. So this weeks blog is about films I'm excited to see this year, OK so it is March but you'll soon find out timing isn't my strong point. As part of my review I will include what my girlfriend (Katie thinks, you can find her blog HERE. So here is my five films to look forward to.

Noah

Noah looks like it is a serious version of Evan Almighty. As the title suggests its about the bible story of Noah and the ark. If you know the bible, you will find it amusing that Hollywood are starting at the beginning,so we will have Revelations by 2020. Russel Crowe is playing Noah. Ray Winston and Anthony Hopkins are I think playing the baddies, but I'm not entirely sure the trailer hardly gives anything away, apart from the fact the graphics look amazing!!  And it won't hurt to see Emma Watson back on a film screen.

Katie's quick thoughts
4/10 interesting look at traditional story bit darker but love the idea, a manly version of Evan Almighty!

Captain America: The  Winter Solider

Now I've been excited for this film for along time. The first film was my favourite Marvel Film, I have a secret Marvel obsession. However I do have this thing with sequel I never tend to like them, well apart from James Bond, Starwars and Lethal Weapon. But I get the feeling the Captain America films might be added to this list. It's bound to be full of explosions and fight scenes but the first had a story behind it. This film is bound to be a box office sensation.

Katie's Quick thoughts
8/10 I may have a secret love of super hero's after watching the avengers, love the fact it has a story not just mindless violence and a hot superhero helps ;)

The Railway Man

This film is about a world war 2 prisoner of war, who was captured by the Japanese. Not wanting to give you all a history lesson, but the Japanese forced their prisoners to work on projects to help the war effort. This story follows the horrific conditions those men went through, it focus' on Colin Firth character and his search to get revenge on his captives. His wife (Nicole Kidman) tries to support him through this ordeal. Its a perfect love story with a hard, upsetting edge to it. I'm really looking forward to this film being released.

Katie's Quick thoughts
9/10 Interesting, historical, heartfelt and sounds brilliant! With brilliant actors/actresses and a true story!

22 Jump Street
The first film was absolutely hilarious, as much as I love serious films with a hard hitting story, comedies like this just cheer you up. By the looks of the trailer its the same story as 21 jump street, just at college. Jonah Hill is one my favourite comedy actors at the moment and Channing Tatum is one for the girls to go and see, Ow and Katie mentioned Dave Franco? so I think this is a definite date night film.

Katie's Quick thoughts
10/10 Jonah Hill = Hilarious  Channing Tatum = Beautiful Oh and was that Dave Franco I saw! I'm in!

Sin City: A dame to kill for

I am so excited for this film. The first one was my favourite thriller a couple of years ago... not that I watched it at the time. I really can't say how excited I am to see this film. Based on the book this films trailer looks amazing! So amazing you need to watch it:On youtube here

With a cast that features; Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jessica Alba. You just know its worth paying to see.

Yeah I disagree with Katie on this one.

Katie's Quick thoughts
3/10  seems interesting but scary and at over 2 and a half hours long could get bored

So that's my five films to look forward to, go out and enjoy the cinema this year.

Have a great week

Bikes Not Films

Last week I said I would write about what films I was looking forward to but I also had this blog lined up.

As I've said many times cycling has sort of taken over my life. Now I'm not saying I'm an expert but its a hobby that I take quite seriously.

So the confusing world of road bikes... do you have a carbon frame? or carbon forks with alloy frame. Shimano or Campagnolo? Fit winter tires or not? (for this one I suggest you do)

I think that with cycling a lot of it is down to two main factors your budget and your personal choice.  My bikes have always been chosen for me, which normally meant what was cheapest from a certain high street bike shop. However for my 18th birthday I decided it was time to set foot into the world of road bikes and take my riding a little bit more seriously. Now it took hours and hours of research and going to bike shops and reading forums to decide "actually it really doesn't matter what other people ride". I got measured for a bike (This is really important when it comes to buying a bike), and I went on a website called wiggle and searched for a road bike in my price range. Luckily for me my birthday is in January so I get the sales! Within weeks I had my first road bike and was loving riding it every chance I could. Then you look at other people that are riding and see they have cleats and posh computers on their handle bars and you start to get a bit jealous... My advice on this is just buy what you can afford, there are so many good websites and shops that sell mid range cycling accessories.

I know I just mention the high street shops and websites but nothing beats an independent shop in your town,! From my experience its those people that really know about bikes, so if your thinking about getting into cycling, find out where your nearest is and see what they can do to help.

I find when it comes to buying all the shiny accessories though, just get what you need to start with, a set of decent lights, two bottle cages, mini pump and puncture repair kit. As time goes on and you get more into it all then look at things like cleats and expensive helmets.

My last point on buying a bike is, do some research and then go out and enjoy the freedom of riding your bike. Cyclists on the whole are really nice people.

(My mum wasn't pleased about the bike being in front room)

Sam :)
