Tour Fever

Tour fever everywhere
in Yorkshire
Hello lovely Internet people!

This weekend I've been in the beautiful county on Yorkshire and all because of the greatest sporting carnival on the planet. THE TOUR DE FRANCE!!

Going to the Tour de France is one of the best things I've done this year, its been a dream of mine to see it actually happen, ok so I'm not watching it in Paris on the final weekend but I still get to watch the the carnival happen. Can you tell I'm excited? So here are a few pictures taken over the weekend.

The French police were there to help out.
Just me that thinks they look seriously cool?
Me, my dad and Brother rode the first 30 miles of the first stage of the tour which was amazing! As we passed through villages people were clapping and getting excited about what was going to happen in the next few hours.
My brother and dad taking in the sights on the route

Arriving in Harrogate. 200m is the finish line.
(Sorry about bad picture I'd just got off the bike)

We then settled in the watch the stage on the big screen.

After a long day of cycling activities
its only far to try 'tour de what?' Which brewed
By Theakstons.

Midweek Positives: Number 1

Hello internet friends,

Well mid week blog is here again, I'm starting to like this little feature. And as you can see from the title I'm thinking of just writing down at least 1 positive thing that have happened to me or are going to or just share some positive love.

I don't know about you but when I hit Wednesday, I'm usually feeling a bit down and still day dreaming about the previous weekends memories and then trying to fill up my diary for the weekend coming up. Luckily for me my best mate is popping over tonight to have some bike time and I may buy him a coke at the pub (were both trying to be healthier and not drink as much). Bike time is my first positive for the week! Sim and I usually just sit around tinkering with our bikes and then when we've finished we normally go for a blast. Now if you ask either of our girlfriends and they will say we are not ones for talking about feelings but you put us on bikes and we'll just talk about the things getting us down. I really do think exercising with a friend is the best stress release. Anyway Sim coming over is a bonus to my week!

I had a pretty bad day yesterday I spent hours in the doctors surgery which is always a depressing affair. So I came out saw it was a glorious day, I put the lycra on and went out for a 12 mile ride. Summer is properly on its way now, this fact cheered me up massively. And as I write this I'm listening to my favorite playlist and just smiling and playing a bit of air guitar.

I always say that having a positive out look on life is a really hard thing to do, what with the constant pressures of sixth form and college work and getting a job. But it does make a difference, and it always feels like more opportunities happen because of it. So what do you guys do to stay positive?

Bikes Not Films

Last week I said I would write about what films I was looking forward to but I also had this blog lined up.

As I've said many times cycling has sort of taken over my life. Now I'm not saying I'm an expert but its a hobby that I take quite seriously.

So the confusing world of road bikes... do you have a carbon frame? or carbon forks with alloy frame. Shimano or Campagnolo? Fit winter tires or not? (for this one I suggest you do)

I think that with cycling a lot of it is down to two main factors your budget and your personal choice.  My bikes have always been chosen for me, which normally meant what was cheapest from a certain high street bike shop. However for my 18th birthday I decided it was time to set foot into the world of road bikes and take my riding a little bit more seriously. Now it took hours and hours of research and going to bike shops and reading forums to decide "actually it really doesn't matter what other people ride". I got measured for a bike (This is really important when it comes to buying a bike), and I went on a website called wiggle and searched for a road bike in my price range. Luckily for me my birthday is in January so I get the sales! Within weeks I had my first road bike and was loving riding it every chance I could. Then you look at other people that are riding and see they have cleats and posh computers on their handle bars and you start to get a bit jealous... My advice on this is just buy what you can afford, there are so many good websites and shops that sell mid range cycling accessories.

I know I just mention the high street shops and websites but nothing beats an independent shop in your town,! From my experience its those people that really know about bikes, so if your thinking about getting into cycling, find out where your nearest is and see what they can do to help.

I find when it comes to buying all the shiny accessories though, just get what you need to start with, a set of decent lights, two bottle cages, mini pump and puncture repair kit. As time goes on and you get more into it all then look at things like cleats and expensive helmets.

My last point on buying a bike is, do some research and then go out and enjoy the freedom of riding your bike. Cyclists on the whole are really nice people.

(My mum wasn't pleased about the bike being in front room)
